Ralco introduces SpeciFix®, a new line of natural swine health solutions featuring EC-110 as its first product. Developed to help swine producers manage health challenges, EC-110 is formulated to support pig health and performance through a research-backed approach. Recent studies have examined its role in helping producers manage E. coli challenges while maintaining swine health.
The SpeciFix line leverages Ralco’s patented natural technologies, combining essential oil- and prebiotic-based strategies to help pigs optimize energy for growth and productivity rather than combating health challenges. With decades of research, Ralco has developed SpeciFix to provide swine producers with targeted solutions that naturally support pigs during key health challenges.
The Science Behind SpeciFix®
As antibiotic resistance continues to rise, swine producers face increasing pressure to adopt alternative health strategies. SpeciFix products utilize Ralco’s NEXUS™ formulation approach, a proprietary method that evaluates over 400 essential oils and plant extracts to identify optimal combinations for swine health. This research-driven selection ensures that Ralco’s products work synergistically to support immune function, gut health and overall well-being.
Another key innovation in the SpeciFix line is Microfused® Essential Oils technology, which enhances the effectiveness of essential oils by transforming them into microscopic droplets. These droplets have 20 times greater surface area than traditional essential oil formulations, allowing for improved gut contact and more consistent performance.
EC-110: A Research-Based Approach to Swine Health
As the first product in the SpeciFix line, EC-110™ has been rigorously tested in controlled research settings and commercial swine production environments. Studies conducted in collaboration with Nicolas Rippel, DVM, examined how pigs supplemented with EC-110 responded during an E. coli outbreak.
“During our research trials, pigs that received EC-110 maintained their health and resilience compared to the control group during the E. coli challenge,” said Dr. Rippel. “Producers may find EC-110 to be a valuable addition to their health management strategies.”
Findings from the study indicate a significant reduction in mortality rates among pigs supplemented with EC-110 compared to the control group. The most notable improvements were observed during the early nursery period, where pigs receiving EC-110 had lower mortality rates than those without supplementation.
The Discussion Around Antibiotic Alternatives in Swine Production
Antibiotic resistance remains an ongoing topic in the swine industry, with E. coli being a common bacterial challenge affecting pig health. As industry standards evolve, producers are exploring additional approaches to maintain herd health.
“Swine producers are constantly adjusting their health strategies as challenges evolve,” said Dr. Russell Fent, Swine Technical Director at Ralco. “EC-110 is meant to work alongside existing health programs, providing another option when traditional tools aren’t as effective as they once were.”
